Activity 11-Task 1
I just love those "Common Craft" video clips to help with new tasks...anyway, I think I'll enjoy Wikis. They seem very easy to create and manage. I looked at; Math 12V Outcomes portfolio, 4th grade-Kubler Reading, and Flat Classroom Project. After exploring these three different Wikis, I've found that the organization is a key factor in being "user friendly". The Flat Classroom Project Wiki was way too much information for me. So many links and the information didn't seem interesting to users. I got "lost" in the all the links and info. I would cut down on the focus and be more specific. The second Wiki was; Math 12V Outcomes Portfolio. I liked the organization. The lessons were easy to link to and follow. Each lesson stated the specific outcomes. No problem with expectations. Exams and cumulative assessments were available. This Wiki was nominated "Best Educational Wiki" by edublog awards. I also liked that it showed a visitor map. That was cool. Easy navigation and tabs. My final Wiki that I explored was Kubler Reading-4th grade book club. Since I am a fourth grade teacher I did like this site the best. It was very easy to navigate and it had soooo much useful information for students to share and collaborate with in a Book Club setting. I loved the format. The left side was simple to navigate. Word Wizard for vocabulary, chapter by chapter, along with characters in the story, literary devices and jobs/roles of the students. I loved how the students had screen names to protect identy but yet a picture was posted. This Wiki was my favorite. It has inspired me to create something similar. I wouldn't change a thing on Kubler Reading Wiki.
